On Wednesday 12th April I had an absolute ball launching this, The Parent Pause! With 150 Mums (and a few Dads…especially the infamous Warren!) and a fantastic panel of speakers – Sarah Turner (The Unmumsy Mum), Matt Coyne (Man Vs Baby), Giles Alexander (Youthedaddy) and Kate Starkey (Cheltenham Maman).
I jumped head first into planning the event just six weeks prior, when I received confirmation that Sarah Turner (The Unmumsy Mum) could make it. As the day approached I was really excited and felt ready to ‘do it,’ but I was also extremely nervous and hadn’t slept properly at all!
As we arrived at the Benn Hall, there was so much to do, but the night meant so much to me so it was really important to get it all right. When we had set everything up and prepared the room, it dawned on me that maybe I had found my thing – I loved this Parent Pause malarkey! Even if it does consume your entire life in the run up to an event, and require more work hours than a full time job!
The night got underway and it was clear that we were in for some big laughs. From Holly’s hilarious commentary to Matt’s brilliantly accurate toddler anecdotes (I will never forget the slice of ham at soft play story!) ,and Sarah recounting her boys favourite game ‘the Willy Show!’
We also had some excellent chat from Giles (www.youthedaddy.com), who gave some really insightful views and valid points about Dads, like the fact they shouldn’t be treated as amazingly special just for stepping out of the house alone with the kids – that they are parents too and it should just be normal. Kate Starkey was also a wonderful guest and entertaining speaker, who gave us lots of laughs (the dreamy ‘white company’ inspired photoshoot ruined by a ‘poonami’ of epic proportions!) as well as the different perspective from a parent with teenagers.
Our ‘pop-up’ retail therapy area was also brilliant, with fab brands and small retailers selling all sorts of gorgeous and quirky gifts. I’ve had lots of positivity about the range of stalls on offer, and lots of love from our stall holders who loved being involved too.
Above all, it was you, the parents of Rugby, Warwickshire and the wider midlands that came along and made the night such an amazing success. So many of you spoke to me about how much you enjoyed our launch, how you didn’t know what to expect, but that it was fun and interesting and you can’t wait for more. Thank you so very much for this and for each person who has taken the time to send me a message or email. It has made every single minute worth while.
Everyone also gave so generously to the raffle and helped raise over £350 for Trekstock, our chosen charity. Thank you so much everyone!
