It used to be fairly simple to attend a wedding, all you needed was a nice dress, some heels possibly a hat and then head to the church and enjoy the occasion. Nowadays though there seems to be various types of ceremonies. There is the beach wedding, casual ceremony, night do only invite, formal wedding and many more in between. Therefore it can be difficult to know what that correct dress code is as a guest.
Plus, there is the added pressure of not only looking fabulous all day but remaining comfortable from the ‘I do’ to when you are leading the Conga at 1 am (you know you do it too)!
So, to make things a little easier I have scoured the stores for classic looks that will work at a variety of ceremonies and the fabulous Perfection Secrets has your occasion-wear solutions completely covered. Plus, I will be showing you their fabulous new product, Shoe Stoppers, which have just launched and trust me when I say that they are a life/shoe saver when it comes time for pictures or drinks on the lawn…
LIPSY – RUFFLE CAMI BODYCON DRESS . NEXT – LONG CLUTCH BAG (SHIMMER) . STEVE MADDEN – STECY STILETTOS
L-R: Boden – Ruched Wrap Dress . Topshop – Cut Out Blazer Dress . New Look – Tie Strap Midi Dress . ASOS – Cape Back Shift Dress . Topshop – Slinky Mini Dress
What is there to say about the little black dress that hasn’t already been said? It is classic style and the epitome of femininity and sex appeal. Worn correctly the little black dress switches seamlessly from day to night, perfect for a wedding. In the day wear a pashmina softly draped around your shoulders and an up-do. Then once it comes time for the reception let your hair down (literally), loose the wrap and dance the night away. Keep accessories simple so that you don’t clutter the outfit. Black, nude, silver or gold shades will work best with a classic L.B.D and won’t detract from the classic look.
The Wrap Dress
L-R: Boden – Riviera Dress . Mango – Sequin Wrap Dress . New Look – Red Wrap Front Dress . ASOS – Fluted Sleeve Wrap Dress . Diane Von Furstenberg – Colour Block Wrap Dress
A good Wrap Dress can be a woman’s best friend. It is flattering on almost every shape, it is adjustable and can be cinched into create definition between the waist and breasts allowing a beautiful silhouette. The best part is it’s versatility. It can be worn to work, shopping, at a restaurant or as occasion-wear. This makes the Wrap Dress a must-have item. In my wardrobe sit a number of Wrap Dresses including this floral design from H&M, I also one in black, grey and cream and I can not tell you how many weddings, christenings and parties I have worn them to over the years. Whenever I am unsure as to the dress code I automatically reach for a Wrap Dress.
L-R: Topshop – Colour Block Jumpsuit . Mango – Frilled Long Jumpsuit . New Look – Black Frill Bardot Jumpsuit . Miss Selfridge – Premium Rose Gold Embellished Jumpsuit . Mango – Halter Jumpsuit
If you are lucky enough to be invited to a beach wedding then I would first like to congratulate you on a great choice of friends and then suggest you pack a Jumpsuit for your wedding outfit. The idea of sashaying down the beach in a glorious maxi dress (think Carrie Bradshaw in her amazing Halston dress in Dubai) is a fabulous idea but in reality people often end up dragging sand around all day in the hem of their dress or worse still tripping over in front of your fellow guests. A Jumpsuit gives the fluidity and motion that you would get from a maxi dress but it is much easier to contend with once you hit the sand. Another tip for a beach wedding…Do not be tempted to wear heels!! Nobody can walk in heels on sand and look good, it is physically and ‘fashionably’ impossible!
The Formal Dress
L-R: The 8th Sign – Mint Cosmos Dress . ASOS – Wedding Structured Prom Dress . ASOS – Tulle Prom Skirt . H&M – Plum/Powder Tulle Dress . Coast – Waldorf Midi Dress
No invite is quite as exciting as those rare invitations to a truly formal wedding. The chance to play dress up is always a welcome escape from day to day jeans and flats. When the opportunity arises I always opt for a ‘poofy’ dress which allows for full twirling come the time to dance. This Hibiscus Dress from The 8th Sign is the perfect cut for a formal wedding as it is conservative enough for the ceremony yet fun enough for the evening. An up-do is always a great option for this style of dress but keep it simple so that you don’t look like a Prom attendee!
